Genesis Goalie Pads

How might we create a solution that makes hockey equipment accessible for the youth?

Project Description

Genesis Goalie Pads are a proposed solution to making hockey more accessible for those who wish to pursue the sport but can't because of economic barriers. It uses modularity to allow personalization through the freedom to self-express. Additionally, one of the benefits of modularity in this design is that components that most frequently wear out, can be replaced. After product testing, it can be safely said that none of the components will come undone while in use.

Insight

Children, by nature, are curious beings. As curious as they may be, they also depend on their parents/ guardians to provide them with opportunities and cover them financially until they are capable of doing so themselves. That's why accessible sports equipment is important.

Idea

The idea of this project is to have goalie leg pads be able to grow with the athlete and have the freedom to choose the colour of the sliding surfaces and outer roll to either match team colours, or whichever colours the athlete chooses to wear.

Impact

The Genesis Goalie Pad project addresses a significant impact on the rigidity of the equipment market. Taking a close look at the current marketplace, we can see how little changes can be made and how linear the equipment is. Through modularity, we reduce the amount of generated waste and allow for simple reparability.
