COLLECTIVE COOLING
Can a microclimate be created for the public realm using municipal infrastructures such as groundwater and local materials and production such as 3d printed clay?
As Toronto is confronted with rising temperatures and socioeconomic diversity, the public realm presents an opportunity for accessible cooler micro-climates for urbanites in the year 2040. The 3d printed clay structure is a thermal exchanger that utilizes cold groundwater and thermal absorption by dissipating excess heat in the built environment. The objective is to provide individuals within proximity a reduced temperature experience, in conjunction with subsiding the urban heat island effect.
