Insight

Female immigrants are normally portrayed as a vulnerable percentage of the population; they must adjust to a different cultural norm, fighting and understanding the system, finding their way around, and making their new home a home. This project aims to reduce the stress inducing process an Immigrant goes through when settling in a new country while learning how to cope with feelings like loneliness, homesickness and anxiety. It addresses the importance of needing to find a community when arriving in Canada, a community which acts as a strong support system throughout the settlement process.

Idea

assist her will raise awareness of the mental health and emotional wellbeing of LatinX female immigrants while offering as many tools and resources as possible. It is not a new Facebook group, not a new messenger, not a new Instagram, and not a typical social media interaction. This is a new tool to create meaningful connections while sharing immigration experiences. As a user, you will be able to have full ownership of your interactions while feeling safe and secure to share your experience and learn from others.

Impact

My project allows LatinX Female immigrants the opportunity to have a less stress inducing resettlement experience in Canada; they will be able to make their new home a home while meeting new people and adjusting to a new lifestyle. It will go both ways, not only for the users but the mentors; the idea of giving and receiving help will drive newcomers to a better settlement journey.

Biography

Hola! I'm Anna Lucia born and raised in El Salvador, San Salvador a problem-solver, listener, and adventurer. A word that continuously drives my creative work is MOVEMENT; I move to find the inspiration to create; to invent. When I am moving there is no time for fear or doubt. It's pushing me forward, making me stronger. I am constantly impressed by the creative industry and the power it has to move people. Movement for me is seeking ways to apply design into the real world: movement inspires. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, especially with my family, getting to know new places, cultures and traditions mostly around Latin America.
